Proton Mail is Switzerland-based encrypted email with end-to-end and zero-access encryption—only you can read your messages. Strong points: open source, no ads, Swiss privacy laws, password-protected emails. The Proton ecosystem includes Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Meet, VPN, Pass (password manager), and Lumo AI—all privacy-first, no data harvesting. I is a perfect fit for someone who values privacy and wants to escape big tech surveillance.
Comparison free versus paid version
We recommend to either use the free version or to purchase the unlimited bundle. This will give you the full capabilities of all Proton tools.
Registration
You can register on the Proton website.
Setup Proton mail in your email client
Windows / Apple / Linux computers: Install the Proton app or access the mail via the browser.
Alternatively you can add your proton mails to your current email client on your Windows, Apple or Linux computer. For this you need to install a software tool, the Proton Bridge. The bridge is only available in paid plans and is a bit more complex.
On mobile phones and tablets Proton there is a free dedicated Proton app. Mails from other providers can't be included, which means that you will need a second app for your non-Proton mails.
